Frequently Asked Questions
Updated: November 24, 2002
01 What Can I Expect At A Typical Event?
Each event has a live music component generally starting
around 9pm and often display or performance art loosley
tied in to a theme. We give all of our events a name
and work the name into a theme. It's generally a coffeehouse/pub
environment with seating, candles and incense. We
encourage bubble blowin, mingling, table conversations,
applause, and dancing when applicable. The latter
part of each event is impromptu and we often have
late night open mic following the final performance
of the evening at around midnight.
02 What's the Average Age?
The average age of our crowd lies somewhere between
their early 20's and 40's, although we've had performers
as young as 18 and guests in their golden years dancing
into the wee hours. It's all good!
03 How Many And What Type Of People Come To Your
Events?
Over the course of an evening, we generally have
between 50-100 or more people in attenance who like
music and art and appreciate our friendly and supportive
crowd; about half of them are repeat attendees - many
who have become our friends over the past few years;
while the rest are newcomers and usually fans or friends
of one of the bands, artists or dj's. Sometimes,
we event get the odd curler to stick around after
curling finishes at 9pm.
04 How Do I Hear About Your Events?
We are known almost soley by word-of-mouth and email. We could use help if you're interested in getting your friends to come out or putting up a poster
or two on a bulletin board near you. You can contact us by email: info@gallerylounge.com
or call the infoline: 604-720-3040.
05 How Often Do You Hold Events?
We try to hold 2-4 events per year although
we're starting to also book bands at established venues
in Vancouver in addition to our events. Although we
have held our events in a variety of locations in
Vancouver - we are currently holding our events at
the Marpole Curling Club. We are in a process of constant
growth and change. (Find out more about Our
History). We're open to cross-promoting our events
with similar types of happenings around town to help
develop a greater sense of community and unity in
the artistic community.
06 How Do You Find And Select You Artists?
We feature primarily local and upcoming talent from
(but not limited to) Vancouver and the lower mainland
of British Columbia with the occasional artist from
Washington State. We are on the constant lookout for
talent and choose multi-disciplinary artists that
aren't in it for the money or fame, but simply want
to make a little difference in the world by their
work and attitude. Feel free to submit your
work to us - email submissions@gallerylounge.com
or fill out our
online artist application. We're also open to
volunteers who would like to contribute
their time and skills.
07 What Are People Saying?
We thrive on getting your feedback either in our
guest book or by filling out a feedback form or draw
ticket or sending us an email. The majority of comments
we have received tell us that people really enjoy
our positive atmosphere, intimate setting, and our
great vibe. We believe that the vibe of "the
house" is made because of the genuineness of
the people that come to our events and we thank everyone
who has ever attended one of our events for making
it a beautiful space.
"I heard about the Sweet 16 event through the
Late Tuesday newsletter. My wife and I don't take
many opportunities to listen to live music. We need
to do it more. I enjoyed meeting by Shainin at the
door. James' MC work was fun. We got to chat with
several of the artists. It is so nice to go to a small
venue concert with so much talent in the room. Of
course not every artist was to our taste, but they
were all good for what they were. We loved most of
them. The ordering was good. Audio Lava was a perfect
choice for late in the show, and Nicole Paris was
a great final act. Evelyn Loewen showed amazing poise
in the face of massive feedback. We left before the
open mike. We aren't late nighters. I really liked
the room except the dance music that kept leaking
in. It was bad at many times, but worst during TJ's
song. Good job. Keep it up. We'll be back." -
