Curl (I of III)
Saturday, April 7, 2001
Marpole Curling Club

Thanks for helping us build our community of artists and art lovers. Thanks also to Fashion Magazine for their November 2001 story on Curl.

About CURL:

Vancouver's Beautiful House Gallery Lounge presented the first of three installments of "CURL", their 11th styling event, saturday night, april 7th, 2001 in the kitschy upstairs lounge of Marpole's Curling Club at South West Marine Drive and Heather.

April's event featured an evening of live and dj music, free pool, cheap drinks and cocktails, and a focus on performance art including live painting and sketching and sculpting.

We're back in the Marpole area at a new and very cool and curly kind of venue - the retro upstairs lounge at the undiscovered, sweet, and kitschy Marpole Curling Club.

Call For "Live" Painters/Sketch Artists:

If you are a painter or sketch artist, bring your paints, canvas or sketch pads to an upcoming event. We'll have one free model posing during the evening in short and long poses.

Address Info:

Marpole Curling Club
8730 Heather Street (@ Southwest Marine Drive) Across from Canadian Tire near A&B Sound.

Soressa Gardner debuts at Beautfiul House at our Curl I event.

Live Musical Stylings by...

We were glad to welcome back another installment of the easy-listening pop lounge music of Red Velvet Swing in addition to newcomer Soressa Gardner.

Soressa Gardner - Soressa's song writing appeals to lyric-hungry listeners with an ear for quirky story-telling. Her distinct style of urban folk explores inner workings and secret selves. Soressa is the only artist we've featured at all three Curl events. She made her debut performance at Beautiful House in April 2001 at Curl I.

Performance Art:

Curl welcomed live sculptors, Tim Dang and Reto Marti along with an overwhelming number of drop-in painters and sketchers swirling their brushes and pencils, some on chairs, and some who made themselver at home lying on the floor. Models for the evening were Thomas Lundy and Yin Choi.

Display Art:

Curl included a display of recent photographic works by Vancouver commercial photographers, Roger Mahler and JP.
