reSOLVE
January 2000
Marpole Warehouse #1

Our 4th event was held in the same grungy little warehouse that we held our previous event, Night At The Copa (8805 Selkirk Street at West 72nd Avenue), in the heart of Marpole's apartment neighbourhood.

Resolve featured another great set of covers by local singer/songwriter, Laurie MacDonald and acapella by our duo, Michelle Shepherd and Rinat De Picciotto.

Several large-scale recent paintings by local painter, Jeffrey A Gibson, brought to life the bleak warehouse walls that evening and an artist statement, tied in well to our "Resolve" theme, was delivered by our emcee, Kathleen Boddington.

Spoken word for the evening was performed by Tracey Martin; DJ for the evening was Ed "Jetboy" Klassen.

Our Review:

Our best attended event to date, Resolve was our first event of 2000 and held late enough in January when people were itching for the promises of Spring, adjusting to the year in all of its four-digits, and seeking excitement after all the over-hyped doomsday predictions and a rather uneventful Y2K.

As literal themes can quickly become financially overwhelming and time-consuming, Resolve was a more figurative or implicit theme.

Looking back, we, the co-founders of Beautiful House, have learned alot about what keeps us motivated as we enter our 3rd year of special event production.

We both believe that the phone calls, meetings, emails, artist submission process, event promotion, and execution of each of our events from setup to strike requires that we work well with each other and with everybody involved - from our relationships with venue landlords, volunteers, crew, and soundpeople, to hand-picking artists with a positive vibe for our souls.

Leadership is about making decisions, even when there are pros and cons to a choice - even when we are being pulled in many other directions - learning to trust our gut instinct and follow our concept and vision are among the things we at Beautiful House continue to Resolve. Thank you to all who have supported and encouraged us thus far!
