September 1999
Ygeia Restaurant
Our
debut event was held in September 1999 at Ygeia Restaurant,
formerly "Bella Casa Restaurant" a 20 year
landmark in the quiet residential Marpole district
of Vancouver.
Not
knowing what to expect, we soon found ourselves greeting
around 40 guests to a well-received evening of live
music, monologues, dj music, and original martinis.
At
the start of the evening, James Neufeld, Shainin
Hudda, Michelle
Shepherd and Deb
Seeley took to the makeshift stage while James
made artist introductions and welcomed everyone. He
shared the concept of "Beautiful House"
as an art gallery and cocktail lounge supporting independent
and local artists, thanking everyone for their support
and wishing them a great evening.
The
evening featured live music by Michelle
Shepherd and Deb
Seeley on guitar with monologues
throughout the evening by Kathleen
Boddington, Actor.
The
patrons sat in a cozy, dimly lit, smoking lounge accompanied
by large colorful artwork on the walls (as shown right),
flowing fabric around the bar, a large mirror ball,
and plenty of candles, incense and bubbles on each
table.
Canadian and Greek food was available on the restaurant
menu along with our signature cocktails including
"The Temperamental", "The House Martini",
and "The Beautiful Stranger".
As it was still the tail end of summer and with the
temporary tattoo phenomenon at the time, guests could
get a temporary tattoo on their arm for a few bucks
in one area while others helped create the ambiance
by blowing our Beautiful Bubbles during the performances.
The
evening ended around 1am with a bit of dancing (thanks
to DJ Toby), mingling, and a latenight appearance
by our featured artist, Pat
Leidl.
