Pat
Leidl
"The
line between commerical illustration and fine art
has never been an easy one to pin down. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec,
Edward Hopper, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol all
struggled to shoehorn their artistic insights into
commercial projects. Even during the great outpouring
of the Renaissance, artists who accepted money to
paint chapel frescos on biblical themes were as much
journeyman illustrators as they were inspired creators."
Pat
Leidl is one more artist in this long pedigree whose
work crosses the boundary between commercial and fine
art.
Pat
Leidl is an artist, illustrator, designer and humanitarian,
formerly from Vancouver. Shortly after her exhibit
at Beautiful House she left to live and work in Europe.
We have unfortunately lost contact with her.
Among
her accomplishments in Vancouver, Pat was an editorial
illustrator at The Vancouver Sun where she confronted
crucial contemporary issues with creative visual solutions
including "Drug Use in the Medical System",
"Disappearing Languages", and "Fighting
Breast Cancer".
Pat
has worked extensively for UNAIDS,
the United Nations-sponsored body overseeing prevention,
education and community support around the AIDS pandemic.
Visit
Ms. Leidl's website
