TJ of Vancouver's Fragile

TJ Promotional Photo. More Photos...

Drawn to and inspired by music since her fingers could first reach the keys of her old up right piano, at age 7, TJ, began receiving guitar lessons from her stepfather who is a professional musician. At age 11, she picked up the tenor sax and played in both school concerts and jazz bands into her mid-teens. Her comfortable and confident stage presence comes from growing up around rehearsals, jam sessions and occasionally being invited on stage to perform with her stepfather, and also from playing solo piano at many city events. Although she wrote her first fully composed song at the age of 10, it wasn't until her early 20s, after touring North America as MC and assistant for Terry Stokes, that she rediscovered her passion for the stage and her music roots.

Along with this reunion with music came a deeper connection with her innermost self. TJ is in a place in her life where she is more than willing to share her thoughts, passion and feelings through her music. Her message can be summed up in the lyrics to one of her new songs, " The world push and pulls. Life has its highs and lows. It can be beautiful. Let it happen".

TJ has the ability to heal and comfort those around her through her touch and words. She believes in being honest even if it hurts, and that the most rewards and growth in life come from the truth. It has been said that her music is refreshing, soothing and gentle to the ear and that her voice is soft, but her message strong. In this day and age of confusion and self-searching, it is nice to know that there are artists like TJ creating music to remind us why it is we've come here...to learn and to love.

TJ's debut performance at Beautiful House was at our Curl III event on Saturday, August 18th. She'll also be one of the sweet independent female musical performers at our upcoming event summer 2002.

In Vancouver, it's so easy to escape into our gorgeous geographical surroundings that carry us away from the hustle and bustle and fickleness of city living and city folk. Earlier that day TJ had done just that. She had been on the beach all day and had driven for quite a while to make it back to Vancouver for her performance at Beautiful House.

As she was our first musical act for the evening, she was faced with the challenge of warming the audience up which she did quite elegantly. As her set was nearly over with some feedback and technical issues to work with on top of loosening up the crowd still wandering in, TJ did a first at Beautiful House - she climbed onto the bed that we had set up near the stage for patrons to lounge on and performed her final song with her guitar in hand. That's something we wish happened more often! Shortly after her performance, she writes to her fans, "My gig on the 18th went well. It was a real cool set up. They have candles, incense, a nude model in the back corner...".

Recent News: TJ is in the new independent Vancouver band, Fragile. Her gigs include the Kingshead Pub in Kitsilano. For more info, email tj@gallerylounge.com.
