Kimona
from Reach One
Former
Denmark lounge sensation, Kimona, has been the opening
act for such performers as Ben E King, Freda
Payne and Jimmy Smith. She began singing professionally
at the age of 15 in Bermuda.
She
was invited to record an album in Denmark at the age
of 22 by a Doctor who was also a musician. While there,
she stayed at Stuk Ranch Studios where Aerosmith has
recorded. An accomplished singer/songwriter, Kimona
has sung in Norway and Ireland and has written and
sung in both Danish and English.
Now
with over 15 years of studio recording experience
behind her, Kimona is working on a new band project,
Reach One, a fusion of gospel, funk, and R&B
with her partner Graham Barr. Reach One has begun
performing at various coffeehouses in the Lower Mainland.
Together,
Kimona and Graham manage, develop and assist new local
artists in getting signed to major recording labels
through their company Be Free Enterprises in
Vancouver, BC.
In
2001, they also became involved with newsforthesoul.com
"on the music end of things". Kimona will
be doing a 1/2 hour radio show in Danish with "Music
For The Soul".
Kimona
has also been part of Vancouver's VOC
Soul Gospel Choir for over 5 years. She mentioned
to us that her daughter, Sascha, is an up and coming
performer!
