Brought
into this world 33 years ago, this Vancouver born
and raised Aquarian artista started her lifelong love
for art under the family kitchen table at the precocious
age of 4. Drawing on the wall was the beginning and
from there, throughout elementary and high school,
Virginia contributed her talents to murals, weekly
comic strips and other numerous art presentations.
Virginia's dream was to be a comic/fantasy book illustrator
and then she moved towards the fashion industry. Virginia
honed her talents under the Art Careers Program at
Burnaby Central Senior Secondary and then continued
with the Fashion Arts program at Kwantlen University
College. Virginia also took classes in portraiture
and watercolours at Langara College and is currently
spending some time at Emily Carr.
Virginia
has spent the last 10 years involved with the fashion
world and decided it was time to go back to her first
love. The fashion industry she found, was too focused
on the idealised perfect model form and the industry's
perception of being beautiful. Well, the beautiful
was too emiciated and too austere and too superficial.
"After
10 years in fashion, I want to draw real people, the
real world which I find more beautiful than the esthetically
pleasing images I see in fashion. I prefer the lumps
and bumps over the anorexic body types. I find the
natural human figure in all stages of life to be the
most beautiful thing to draw."
Virginia
has travelled extensively throughout the years and
each experience of the trip and the people that she
had met adds depth to her quality of work. Virginia's
talents are not just on paper. Virginia's creativity
also extends into film and theatre work, jewelry,
interior decorating and photography. So far she has
credits as set decorator, costumer, and production
designer on various independent film projects as well
as producing fashion shows.
