Tim
Dang
Born
in Ho Chi Minh City, Tim Dang came to Canada in 1979.
His family chose Winnipeg, Manitoba, as their new
home. In Winnipeg, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts
in 1996 and a Bachelor of Education in 1998.
Upon
graduation from the field of Education, Tim moved
to Vancouver to pursue a career as an art teacher.
He spent his first summer in BC teaching ESL for Bodwell
Summer Exchange Program located at UBC. In September
of the same year he landed a job as a visual arts
teacher at BC Muslim School in Richmond. At BCMS,
he discovered the many challenges of being an art
teacher to students with no prior art education. Surviving
his first year, he knew he would make it as an art
teacher wherever he went and was ready to take on
the challenges that lay ahead.
In
his second year, he found a teaching position with
P.O.W.E.R. Alternate Program in New Westminster. At
P.O.W.E.R., he learned to teach Math 10 & 11 as
well as many other subjects once foreign to him. He
rediscovered his passion for photography and sculpture
and had the opportunity to teach both courses.
Currently,
Tim is working as a part-time art teacher at South
Hill Education Centre, teaching sculpture (Visual
Arts Three-Dimensional). To him, teaching art is as
rewarding as creating art. He seldom finds time to
complete unfinished artwork. Instead he preoccupies
himself with learning new approaches and techniques
to pass onto his students.
Tim
is currently looking for a studio space that will
allow him to teach art to all those interested in
exercising their creative intellect. The classes will
cover drawing, painting and clay and stone sculptures.
