Reto
Marti
Born
in 1960 in Switzerland, Reto was raised, educated
and trained in the german speaking part of the country.
In 1981 he started to carve stone as a trainee.
Over
a period of seven years he apprenticed on numerous
projects including: outdoor sculpture, architectural
carving for heritage buildings, letter carving, installing
stone products for the construction marked and the
fabrication of outdoor fountains.
Submissions
for artist calls and the participation in art competitions
were the venues in which he explored art.
In
1988, Reto immigrated to Canada where he continues
to sculpt.
Over
these past years Reto has executed the following body
of work:

Summer of 92 private commission for abstract carving
in Whistler BC

Fall of 92 Abstract carving for same patron

Spring and summer of 93/94 clay studies, studio work.

Winter of 95 Yellow Knife N.W.T. Contracted to instruct
granite carving on life-size figurative sculpture

Spring and Summer of 96 continue contract in Yellow
Knife

97 studio work Vancouver BC

Fall of 99 commemorative installation in stone for
the Municipality of Whistler
-
Winter 99/2000 commissioned by Merit Consultants of
Bellevue Washington, USA. to carve a six foot tall
abstract granite sculpture.

Summer of 2000, selected to participate in the "Portals
Of The Future" symposium in Richmond BC
-
Fall of 2000 on going contracted to teach stone carving
through the Vancouver School Board.
