GReY
Saager
GReY
is a Vancouver-based painter and musician. Born in
Moose Jaw, Sask on Sept 12, 1973, he began painting
in grade 10 art class when asked to reproduce a painting.
His rendition was "almost an exact match of a
Mark Casey hawaiian sunset" which he still has
in his possession.

Having
discovered his talent for landscapes, he began painting
"Bob Ross-Joy of Painting style" landscapes
for about a year. After that, he began experimenting
in various styles of abstract painting focusing mainly
on creating the right mix of colours than anything
else.
He
has painted a series of semi-realisitic city scenes
but tired of the exactness of the style and wanting
to do something more whimsical, GReY found himself
doodling
in the pattern present in his work today - the
birth of his style.
GReY
has also carried his music dream since he was 12 or
13.
Artist
Statement (Excerpt):
"The
pattern of circles getting bigger and smaller was
born out of boredom like when you're on the phone,
and you doodle while you talk. I took a certain fascination
with these images and the many possibilities with
which I could work with them from different media
to different color combinations and scales etc."
"I
don't think that the pattern means anything to me.
If anything, I would equate it to the boredom I experienced
at the job - it was the natural idle contentment of
being entertained drawing the cylic transition from
bigger to smaller as a means to create some kind of
difference from one moment to the next rather than
drawing circles of the same size. I notice that I,
as any other human being, need to feel some kind of
change over time. This is inherent to the life we
live. In creating this pattern, I have the feeling
that although it can seem monotonous, even the smallest
difference from one moment to the next can create
a feeling of at least moving forward, even if it leads
back to the same point or stage at which one started.
I guess my art represents the cycle of life doesn't
it?"
